VTG 1978 JVC RC-838JW II Boombox Stereo Radio Cassette Player Recorder – READ. Stereo mode switch intermittently makes a poor connection and diminishes sound to Right channel speakers. All sound modes have been confirmed to work on L/R speakers. Function switch feels loose and/or has dirty contacts. Intermittently diminishes sound to Right channel speakers similar to sound mode switch mentioned above. Roller and heads appear worn or tarnished. Tape door eject switch and door does not stay shut. By holding door, we were able to test these functions. Forward and rewind working. Tape will engage and play, but speed is too slow and uneven. Both channels are heard. Recording working with the same issues. Capstan has some vertical play on it. Will sometimes vibrate/rumbled while spinning. Tape counter works, but will not reverse past 000 (counting down from 999). Deck appears to stop winding tape automatically shortly after counter stops moving. Affects either direction winding. Memory function does not work to stop cassette in rewind when reaching zero. Could not receive on shortwave modes. Tuner knob working and dial light works. VU meters working for power or signal meter modes. Bass + Treble sliders are a bit stiff to move. Battery compartment is free of corrosion (batteries not included). Standard signs of use. May have cosmetic wear and/or scuffs. Corrosion and rust visible on many exterior components. Both antennas are broken. Beat cut switch is seized. See photos for more detail.
