Super rare, super cool WORKING Sony TCM-5000EV cassette tape recorder… A vintage audio relic straight out of the 1980s. IMPORTANT: SEE BELOW FOR SPECIFICS. These things were the gold standard three-head mono audio recorders and are very rare to find these days – especially in WORKING order. From a design perspective they are a work of art, and the audio quality is crisp and clear which is why they became. IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT CONDITION – PLEASE READ. This machine is in working order, with features like speed and tone knobs, battery check, timer reset counter etc all functioning. However it could definitely do with a quick service to ensure everything is functioning at its optimum. There have been a couple of times I’ve hit play and it didn’t immediately start working, but usually it’s straight into it. There is an issue with the built-in speaker. I’ve tested it a few times in the last few days, and it has worked perfectly a couple of times but then seems to disconnect and no longer play through the speaker after being moved. I’m sure this will be a simple fix – and given that it does work occasionally, I’m confident that the actual hardware is functional. Be aware that this is an old school MONO recorder/player, not stereo. So if you’re using stereo headphones you’ll only hear it coming in one ear. Cosmetically, it’s in really good condition for its age. But it does have a few little bumps or wear and tear that you’d expect for a portable audio relic that’s 40-odd years old. See photos to get a proper idea. But like I said, I’ve had it working on those four C-size batteries without a worry. Original leather carry case and shoulder straps ARE included, so you can sling it over your shoulder and hit the streets like a roving reporter from 1982. I’ve tried to include everything but like I said, I’m no expert so sorry if I’ve missed something important. Feel free to ask any other questions and if I can answer them, I will. I probably should have got this serviced myself and upped the price accordingly but I’m working way through a large deceased estate and just don’t have the time.
