Vintage Marantz Professional Portable Cassette Recorder PMD221 3 Head Tape Deck, Cover & Strap. I found this deck at an estate sale of someone who had put on various musical and dancing events. It was kept in a heavy duty aluminum case with foam inside of it. This must have been his baby, because it’s in AMAZING condition! It comes with the outer snap on case, which seems to be rather rare to find and certainly VERY rare in this condition. It has a strap that doesn’t look like it was ever used. I don’t know of any other audio brand that is as collectible as MARANTZ. If your are a Marantz collector, I don’t think you will find another deck that is so cosmetically perfect! This is a Pro deck meant for Pro’s, no rookies allowed, which means me. This thing has so many controls that I have no idea how they work or how to test. This doesn’t have an AC adapter, so I tested with batteries. If the grille on the front is a speaker, then I could not get it to work. I couldn’t get sound from large headphone jack. The only way I could figure to get sound was to run a line out to my stereo, then I got sound. I just tested playback and it worked fine. FF, Rewind, VU Meter and Pitch control all seemed to work fine. I have no idea how to test anything else. No guarantee it will work at all. When researching this deck, I saw some reconditioned decks at some really high prices. NONE of them looked anything close to the cosmetic condition of this deck and none had a cover. My advice is don’t waste your time fixing something that is still going to look second rate when you’re done. This thing is BEAUTIFUL! See all 19 photos at the link below.
