Here you are looking at a Vintage HITACHI TRK-8290E FM SW MW LW Stereo Tape Cassette Recorder Aka Boombox or Ghetto blaster. The overall Condition is really good and in fully working order(please see photos above). The TRK-8290E dates from 1981 when Hitachi manufactured their radio cassette line in Japan, before moving it to Singapore. The 8290 has that genuine ghetto blaster look from the late 70s / early 80’s. Cassette deck front centre, two speakers each side and the radio across the front. This model has been completely cleaned and serviced with new drive belts in the the tape deck. Casing The casing is all moulded plastic which Hitachi painted in contrasting grey and silver. Overall it is in good condition given its age but some parts have a few blemishes and fine scratches, very minor. I have tried to capture this the best I could in the 12 photos above. Power Supply The unit can be powered from Figure 8 240VAC mains (via a lead which I will supply), or even nine D cell alkaline batteries (if you have deep pockets). Aerials Both external aerials are intact and straight. They even have the black plastic ends on them! Radio The radio works really well on FM, MW SW & LW. Cassette Deck The cassette deck has been completely stripped and cleaned and given all new belts. The tape deck sounds very good as is very rare for one to still be working given its age. This model even features Dolby’s NR system for even better sound! It also has a DRPS function andThe number is shown on a 7 segment LED display. Line In This unit has line in as if it was designed to be connected to an iPod or iPhone nearly 40 years later. The input sensitivity of the line in is really high so you need to set your device to a low volume and let the amplifier on the Hitachi do its work.
