Up for sale vintage near mint National (Matsushita, Panasonic) RX-7200 boombox radio cassette recorder with the cling on cassette door. This is good cosmetic condition with some cosmetic flaws (please note that to avoid additional damage I did not overpolish any Nickel-plated knobs or metal panels)! It was extremely well build in Japan in 1981 with plastic case and imitation wood side panels with stainless steel chassis. This is the best National boombox ever made, highly desired by collectors model very hard to come by since it was never made for countries other than Japan. Cassette mechanism quality is close to those used in standalone cassete decks. It has 6 woofers and 1 1/2 tweeters with the output power of 2 x 12.5 Watt. Since RX-7200 was originally made for domestic Japan market only it originally had narrow Japanese 76-90 Mhz FM band and 100VAC power transformer. This 7200 is absolutely unique since it has wide 88-108 Mhz FM band fully restored with proper indication and full “hundreds” display for correct tuning. Also it has 120/220 VAC internal linear transformer wired for the US 120VAC. Surprisingly all front panel markings of this Japan model are is in English! Please note that this model’s transformer is connected to AC all the time regardless of power switch position – I guess electrical bills were not an issue 40 years ago! The boombox went over the museum-quality restoration: complete manual clean-up outside and inside, 88-108 FM/120VAC modification, all belts and pinch roller replaced with new ones, lubrication, tape speed readjusted, new pilot light lamp. Over 20-30 dry (defective) electrolytic capacitors were replaced with the new ones. Even all original wire harnesses and original screws (not a single screw is wrong size, in the wrong place or missing) are kept the same exact way and in the same places as they were originally put in by Matsushita! I was able to verify tape playback/recording as well. Please note the item is over 38 years old and has all traces of use such as wear, scratches and dents especially on the plastic case. Since it spent most of its life in Japan, salty ocean islands climate created some surface pitting even on Nickel-plated external metal panels. This one has small surface scratches, dents and nicks on the front and rear, scratches on the cassette door, as well as metal panels oxidation. Mixing microphone level knob is missing but it’s never used anyway. Please note that both mechanical and electronic components have exceeded their expected life time and might fail at any moment. However due to the overall top built quality I’d expect the device to function well for at least another 50 years pending good care and proper storage. This model was a successor to less complicated National RX-7000 with analogue tuner and less power as well as RX-5350. I have wired remote for sale please check my other auctions. Included – boombox radio cassette recorder National model RX-7200 s/n 1BBKB04702 and US power cord. It’s a very large radio with 24x14x7 dimensions and it weights 23 Lbs (close to 30 lbs packed)! Please, serious buyers only! The item “NATIONAL RX-7200 BOOMBOX AMBIENCE VINTAGE 1981 RADIO CASSETTE RECORDER 88-108MHZ” is in sale since Friday, August 9, 2019.
