You are looking at a PHILIPS N2542 Vintage Hi-Fi cassette tape deck. Lovely vintage Hi-Fi cassette tape deck from Philips. All the Philips Axial capacitors have been replaced with brand new Vishay axial capacitors. No visible wear to the heads and pinch roller. Typical front-loading cassette deck with the cassette compartment located on the right side of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed with the side to be played facing forward in the cassette well. Level meters used on the N2542 are twin analogue needle VU reading meters with peak indicator for easy adjustment of optimum recording level. Mechanical transport controls for reliable N2542 transport function selection. Cue and review can be used to easily and quickly locate the beginning of a passage. The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the N2542 by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies. The 19kHz multiplex pilot signal present in FM stereo broadcasts can cause false triggering of the noise reduction system. The switchable MPX filter of the N2542 filters out the pilot signal, and assuring proper Dolby processing of FM stereo programs. To make live recordings this deck has 2 microphone inputs to connect microphones with a jack connector. For undisturbed listening a jack connector for a pair of stereo headphones is supplied. Connection to other audio components for playback can be achieved by a RCA cable and recording from a source by a RCA cable or a Din cable. Type: 2-head, single compact cassette deck. Changed all belts, checked all Electrolytics capacitors and replaced any that were out of spec. All controls cleaned with Caigs professional cleaning products. Performance checked against Nakamichi Service tapes. It features Dolby B, auto tape select, analogue tape counter, timer, headphone socket with output level, rear stereo microphone sockets, Record balance control (two record level control), microprocessor logic control & play/record timer control, Normal, Chrome and Metal position and bright Flourescent VU meters. This mini cassette player was barely used. Its been in storage for the past 30 years. The simulated leather protector case still has the original label/sticker on its side. The charger cord was never unraveled which is evident by the way its still wrapped up. The Mini cassette recorder has that “new plastic smell”, no discoloring, scratches, cracks. All buttons are responsive. Rewinds, fast forward and plays no issue. Operating instructions, warrant card, consumer parts ordering card no tears, pen markings, missing pages. Styrofoam does not have any cracks. No signs of rust or corrosion on battery contacts or any of the metal parts. Please see the photos for an accurate depiction of item’s condition.
