The tape mechanism has been cleaned and re-greased. This unit has been thoroughly tested. It sounds great and it is working really well! The tape in the photos is not included in this sale. It is pictured for demonstation purposes only. The case shows some wear and the some of the finish is coming off. It is still great for protecting the TC-D5 unit. This unit can be powered off two D batteries or a 6V DC Negative Centre power adaptor. A power supply will be included for Australian and New Zealand buyers only.

I bought this Sony TC-D5 Pro II several years ago at a flea market not knowing if it would work. I brought it home, popped in two D batteries and a tape, and it worked fine. It has spent most of the time I’ve had it in a moisture-free box inside the house, and I brought it out from time to time to play old mix tapes, hooking it up with RCA cables to a Sony TA-1066 amplifier from around 1974. It’s in fine working condition and sounds amazing. Rewind, fast forward, pause, the monitor speaker and the tape counter all work perfectly. The VU meters bounce, and the lights work. These were amazingly rugged machines that were designed for journalists doing fieldwork. It has two microphone ports that take Canon XLR-3-12C type connections. The only slight drawback is that it does not have the original battery cover. The second-hand market for parts for this machine is narrowing but is not impossible with enough effort. This is the last model that Sony made in this series before it essentially stopped making these heavy duty recorders for the professional market, so on the plus side, this one was likely produced in the early’90s. A couple of small scratches on the unit, but nothing is broken. There is a name engraved on the front and back of the unit. All functions tested and are working as they should. I tested this with a Shure sm-48 microphone on both inputs. The level adjuster works smooth for both channels. I also connected some Sennheiser HD280 headphones for the monitor and playback and the volume control for that worked as desired. The built in speaker works nice and clear as well. (headphones and mic are not included). The tape deck is the only item included. No strap, case or power supply. What you see is what you get.
