One of the best looking and well-designed eight-track 7-inch reel deck I’ve seen of its kind. To satisfy all pros and novice alike. It’s in amazing condition aesthetically and the 8 analog VU meters respond and all lit up except the 8th channel’s bulb is out. It is worth having this indispensable esoteric machine around in any audio or video situation to add substantial life. To any cold masterings that perhaps only a tape based format could ever muster, and that in itself. Is value enough to justify its staple purpose in any home based or pro studio environment alike! Prior to posting, countless hours spent given a 20 point tune up including but not limited to, opening the machine layer by layer, board by board. New belt installed, tape transport rejuvenated, heads demagnetized. Lubrication and deoxit all knobs, controls & majority of electronics, as well as many relevant connections where necessarily important to ensure proper contact, static free and smooth operation. Furthermore, buffed and detailed clean every crevice every line to free from dusts with even some retouching may be involved in the refurbishing process. Bench tested and all buttons work as should, records and plays with motor mechanism strong as intended and ready to put in service once again. HOWEVER, Although everything functions as intended, the playback volume sounds normal, but the recorded audio material sounds a bit low. This may be due to tape incompatibility issue but I cannot say for sure. AS IS described condition. The Fostex A8-LR is no longer in production and becoming a hard commodity and very sought after due to its professional quality result of any studio or live recording project and ease of use that is still relevant in digital culture of today! So grab it while it lasts! Like most vintages, some superficial imperfections and cosmetic are almost expected but in no way impede normal functionality. Exceeding 3 decades of tracking down and literally thousands of man hours invested in refurbishing, restoring, repairing these amazing electronic wonders to accumulate such magnificent concentration of historical analog importance you’ve ever seen! Some are new, used and few are part of my on going passion in what I do. Nonetheless, all has given equal meticulous attention and care to arrive in the integrity they once were and will be hard pressed not to admire aesthetically. I baby all my gears more than anyone I know :- and pictures don’t do justice but reflect what you see. Included but not limited to are Otari 5050 reel to reel, Fostex and other open decks. The persistence of Analog! Such a plethora of I/Os to accommodate any demanding configuration with an added convenience of individual send/receive for each of the four track channels for solo external processing or direct out loop link. It’s all you need for capturing that missing body of warmth sound character unattainable by the ubiquitous ones and zeros counterpart. One of my personal project. Fitted with new belts including capstan motor, tape transport & pinch roller rubber tires are freshly installed as well, headblock demagnetized. Countless hours spent given a 20 point tune up by opening the machine layer by layer, board by board. Buffed and detailed clean every crevice every line to free from dusts. Furthermore, lubrication and deoxit all knobs & controls, including many pertinent connections, majority of electronics and moving parts where necessarily important to ensure proper contact, static free and smooth operation with even some retouching involved in the process. It is worth having this indispensable 244 machine around in any audio or video environment to add substantial life. To any cold masterings that perhaps only a pleasing saturation of a tape can ever deliver. I have done literally endless projects with the 244 back in the day and I can’t endorse it enough for its reliability and unsurpassed sound. Anecdotally, IMHO, any tape based format recordings, digital (DAT) or analog will deliver a far sonic superiority. It even stands its ground in digital transfers. Albeit, our affinity to Analog is simply.. “Still” we are all “Analog People” after all living in an evolving tech world of… As a desk top mixer, the 244 four-channel input alone is an amazing value enough to justify its staple purpose in any home based or pro studio alike.. Don’t missed out on this opportunity to own it! All buttons work as expected. I’m an audio engineer, dj, a/v tech, an electronic hobbyist and perhaps a purveyor of all things analog. I have refurbished, repaired, modified and worked on many vintage gears and some of the newer ones as well for my personal hi-fi and pro collection. Time is irrelevant when I would sometimes spend up to 80 hours literally just for a single project alone.. And don’t get paid by the hour either.. it’s what I do and comes with the territory.
