Doesnt work off batteries alone, there is an issue there. Does register that batteries are there as levels flick on when you press play, but doesnt play cassette. Cassette deck works off power supply, but quickly stops and tape unwinds a little. Likely pinch rollers and belts need replacing. Cosmetically there are plenty of knocks and scratches to units. Inside battery compartment there is signs of wear to lid, possibly some corrosion in the past, contacts are clean though, but there is certainly some fault in this area.
