Up for sale today is a used Sharp GF-8989 Portable Sound System. This is a classic boombox straight out of the 1980s. It has tons of features, and sounds great! I cannot offer tech support on this item. I have owned this radio for years, using it occasionally. It has never let me down, and I feel like it has plenty of life left. It could probably use a good detailing (I just gave it a quick wipe down here and there) – and maybe a some service to the tape drive. It plays tapes fine, but doesn’t seem to want to rewind. I’m not sure what the cause of this is, but it has likely not been serviced for many years. You can still fast forward to get where you want on the tape. That being said, this is a 30yr old piece of tech – So no guarantees can be made about its continued service. It is in good cosmetic shape with normal signs of wear. No major damage other than the tip of the antenna being broken off. It still extends just fine, and pulls in a good signal. No batteries or cassette tapes are included.
